Privacy Policy

Privacy policy for the “POGO PLANET” website and app – Version: August 2026

1) Controller

Jonathan Zibler
Braugasse 2a
50859 Cologne
Germany
Email: joni.zibl@gmail.com

2) General information

I take the protection of your personal data seriously. Personal data is any data that can be used to personally identify you. I process personal data only to the extent necessary to provide the website and/or app features, or where consent has been given.

A) Data processing on the website

3) Hosting via GitHub Pages / server logs

This website is provided via GitHub Pages. When visiting a GitHub Pages website, visitors’ IP addresses are logged and stored for security purposes — regardless of whether you are logged into GitHub.

Purpose: secure and stable delivery of the website, defense/analysis of attacks, abuse prevention.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation).

Recipients (hosting provider):
GitHub B.V., Prins Bernhardplein 200, 1097JB Amsterdam, Netherlands
GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. St., San Francisco, CA 94107, United States

Note on transfers to third countries: GitHub also processes personal data in the USA and other countries.

4) Cookies / tracking / analytics on the website

I do not use tracking, analytics tools, or marketing cookies on this website.

I do not set any of my own cookies for analytics/marketing. GitHub may use technically necessary cookies/technologies as part of the hosting operation (e.g., security and functionality cookies). GitHub explains details in its privacy policy.

5) Contact by email

If you contact me by email, I process the data you provide (e.g., email address, message content) in order to handle your request.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (request/contract/pre-contractual measures) and/or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in communication).
Retention period: as long as necessary to process the request; then deletion unless statutory retention obligations prevent this.

B) Data processing in the “POGO PLANET” app

6) Distribution via app stores

The app is distributed via the Google Play Store (Google Ireland Limited) and the Apple App Store (Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland). When you download, install or update the app, the respective store operator processes data under its own responsibility and in accordance with its own privacy policy. I have no influence on this processing and receive only aggregated, non-personal statistics from the stores.

7) Local storage on the device

The app stores certain data locally on your device (e.g., settings, saved games, progress) so that the game works. This data does not leave your device unless it is required for one of the features described below.

Purpose: core game functionality, convenience, progress.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (provision of app functionality).

8) High scores / leaderboards via Firebase (Google)

For high scores, leaderboards and cross-device progress, the app uses Firebase, a service provided by Google. Specifically, the following Firebase services are used:

  • Firebase Authentication – the app signs you in anonymously. No email address, password or account is required. Google assigns a random user ID that is used solely to attribute your entries to you.
  • Firebase Realtime Database – stores leaderboard and high-score entries.

The following data is processed:

  • In-game player name (chosen by you)
  • High scores, times, leaderboard positions, level-specific results
  • Technical identifiers (anonymous Firebase user ID) to attribute entries
  • Timestamps and technical metadata required for ranking and integrity

Purpose: provision of core game features (leaderboards, high scores, progress).
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (provision of the requested functionality).

Recipient: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, D04 E5W5, Ireland

Storage location: The Realtime Database used for this app is operated in the European Union (region europe-west1, Belgium). Google may nevertheless process data — in particular in connection with authentication and technical operation — in third countries such as the USA. Where this occurs, the transfer is based on appropriate safeguards, in particular the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Please note: The in-game name you choose is visible to all other players in the public leaderboard. Please do not use your real name if you do not want it to be publicly visible.

9) Advertising / rewarded ads (Google AdMob)

The app is financed through advertising and uses Google AdMob, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, D04 E5W5, Ireland.

The app uses rewarded ads only: a video advertisement that you start deliberately and voluntarily in order to receive an in-game reward. The app does not display banner ads, interstitial ads or ads that appear without your action.

The following data may be processed by Google in this context:

  • Advertising identifier of your device (Android Advertising ID / Apple IDFA)
  • IP address, approximate location derived from it
  • Device type, operating system and version, language, app version
  • Interaction data relating to the advertisement (e.g., display, view duration, clicks)

Purposes: displaying advertising, measuring advertising performance, preventing fraud, and financing the app.
Legal bases:
Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) for personalised advertising and for any storage of or access to information on your device that is not strictly necessary;
Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in financing the app and in fraud prevention) for the display of non-personalised advertising and for measurement that is required for billing.

Personalised vs. non-personalised advertising: Within the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app shows you a consent dialog on first launch (Google’s “User Messaging Platform”). If you do not consent, only non-personalised advertising is displayed. On iOS, personalised advertising additionally requires your permission under Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework. The app currently does not request this permission, which means that advertising on iOS is non-personalised.

iOS – SKAdNetwork: On iOS, Apple’s SKAdNetwork framework is used for measuring advertising campaigns. It is designed by Apple to work without identifying individual users.

Recipient and third countries: Google Ireland Limited and, where applicable, other companies of the Google group and Google’s advertising partners. Processing in third countries, in particular the USA, may occur. Where this happens, the transfer is based on appropriate safeguards, in particular the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Further information on how Google processes data in connection with advertising:
https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
https://policies.google.com/privacy

10) Granting and withdrawing consent

Where processing is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), you may withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

You can withdraw or change your consent as follows:

  • By sending an informal email to joni.zibl@gmail.com. I will then arrange for the consent to be reset.
  • By resetting or deleting the advertising identifier in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).
  • By reinstalling the app; the consent dialog is then displayed again on first launch.

11) Analytics / crash reporting

The app does not use any analytics service and does not collect usage statistics or automatic crash reports.

For technical reasons, the Google Analytics for Firebase component is included in the app as a mandatory dependency of the Firebase and AdMob SDKs. Its data collection is explicitly disabled in the app configuration, so no analytics data is collected or transmitted.

12) Children

The app is not directed at children under the age of 13 and I do not knowingly process personal data of children under 13. The advertising content displayed is limited to a maximum content rating suitable for a general audience (“Parental Guidance”). If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has provided personal data, please contact me at joni.zibl@gmail.com and I will delete the data.

13) Retention period

I store personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes stated:

  • Website: IP/server logs are stored by GitHub Pages for security purposes.
  • App (leaderboards/high scores): as long as your entry is needed for the leaderboard, i.e., until you request deletion, unless overriding reasons apply.
  • Advertising: retention is determined by Google; see the Google links in section 9.
  • Emails: as long as necessary for processing and any follow-up questions; then deletion unless statutory obligations prevent this.

14) Your rights

You have the following rights (subject to applicable conditions):

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR)

To exercise your rights, simply email: joni.zibl@gmail.com
If your request relates to app data or high scores, it helps if you include your in-game name so I can clearly identify the data. Because sign-in is anonymous, I have no other way of linking an entry to you.

15) Automated decisions / profiling

I do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. Advertising personalisation carried out by Google on the basis of your consent does not produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affect you.

16) Requirement to provide data

Providing data is generally voluntary. However, without an in-game name and score data, the leaderboard and high-score features cannot be used. The game itself can be played without these features.

17) Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

If you believe that the processing of your personal data violates data protection law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is:

State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW)
P.O. Box 20 04 44, 40102 Düsseldorf
Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf
Email: poststelle@ldi.nrw.de

18) Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be adjusted if website/app features or legal requirements change. The current version published on this page applies.
